Dental Health for ChildrenBook Appointment Online

Children's dentistry start even before a child is born. The health and development of a baby's teeth can be affected by a mother’s diet and other health matters that occur during pregnancy. We recommend that you bring your children in with you when you have a checkup so that they get used to going to the dentist and can see that there is nothing to fear.

The child's first teeth, called primary or baby teeth, usually appear through the gums at approximately 6 months and by age 3, all 20 primary teeth should appear. Between 6 and 12 years of age, children lose their first set of teeth and the permanent teeth start to come through, the first of which are the molars, also known as 6 year old molars.

Many children are anxious about visiting the dentist, particularly if it’s their first visit, so we do everything we can to put them at ease. Children especially love to sit in the dentist’s chair whilst we take them for a ride! Our aim is to make every visit a positive experience and for them to get to know and trust their own personal dentist. When children come to us for their first visit or in need of treatment, it’s not unusual for the parents to be just as anxious as the child so we take an empathetic approach to both the parents and the children, explaining each step along the way.

We recommend that every child starts visiting the dentist from the age of 2, just to get used to the dental environment. This can also help your child establish a positive relationship with the dentist. Ideally, you should also bring your child along when you have your regular check-ups.

Generally, we are able to offer children’s treatment at significantly reduced prices but it can vary depending on the time treatment takes and the degree of difficulty. Your dentist will discuss any treatments which are required and the costs associated before undertaking any work.
