There are a number of reasons why a crown might be the right dental treatment for you for any of the following reasons:
The initial consultation allows your dentist to assess your teeth and gums. At Tooth-n-Gum Dental, the dentist will also discuss any alternatives to a crown (e.g. veneers, extraction or fillings) and the associated costs for each treatment.
The fitting of crown usually involves two appointments.
In the first appointment, your teeth will be shaped by the dentist and the impression of the tooth is taken.
A dental laboratory then makes your tooth crown in either porcelain or gold (or a combination of the two). Gold is a stronger material, but porcelain is a closer match to the color of your natural teeth.
The type of crown will be discussed to you before it is given to the lab.
A temporary crown or cap will be fitted to protect your tooth whilst your customized dental crown is being made.
In the second appointment the dentist will assess the crown made from the dental lab and then will fit the crown on your teeth.
